Dr Marc Y. Donath on immune system response and anti-inflammatory treatment —Tuesday, 10 November, 6 p.m. CEST
In patients with Type 2 diabetes, metabolic stress leads to pathological activation of the immune system. In his webinar, “Inflammation and Type 2 diabetes: Pathogenesis and current treatment protocols”, Dr Donath will discuss the pathogenesis of Type 2 diabetes, provide an overview of current treatment protocols and consider the potential of future anti-inflammatory treatment, including the impact on periodontitis.
Dr Corinna Bruckmann on the diabetes–periodontitis relationship—Thursday, 12 November, 6 p.m. CEST
The relationship between diabetes and periodontitis is bidirectional: uncontrolled diabetes leads to a threefold higher risk of developing advanced periodontitis, while untreated periodontitis dysregulates glycaemic balance. In her webinar, titled “Another pandemic: Diabetes! Why should the dental team bother?”, Dr Bruckmann will explore the periodontitis–diabetes relationship, and exactly how to treat and advise patients with periodontitis and/or diabetes to efficiently manage these diseases.
Dr Joanna Slowik on risk management and diabetes—Friday, 13 November, 6 p.m. CEST
Patients with Type 1 diabetes have a higher risk of developing dental caries or periodontal disease, so ensuring that these patients practise adequate hygiene is crucial. Dr Slowik’s webinar, “Dental care for patients with Type 1 diabetes”, will present the oral health risk factors associated with Type 1 diabetes and how timely screening and the latest oral health management guidelines can improve the quality of life of patients with Type 1 diabetes.
The three 1-hour webinars will be broadcast live, and participants can earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire at the end of each webinar. Registration for the webinars is free of charge on the Curaden Academy website.
