Dr Andreas Kurbad established his private practice in Viersen in Germany in 1990 and started using CEREC in 1994. He has published more than 100 papers on full-ceramic restorations, computerised dentistry, implantology and epidemiology. His focus is on clinical work, lecturing and publishing worldwide in the areas of restorative dentistry, adhesive techniques, full-ceramic restorations, computerised dentistry and implantology. Kurbad is also the founder of the CEREC Masters Club and has been a mentor for the CAD/CAM study group at the Karl Häupl Institute in Düsseldorf for over ten years. In this interview, he spoke with GC International about the upcoming CEREC Day 2021.

BERLIN, Germany: A four-country randomised controlled clinical trial recently proved the clinical performance and superior cost-effectiveness of glass hybrids compared with composites in Class II restorations. Researchers from Charité—Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany, led by Prof. Falk Schwendicke, have now proved in another randomised controlled clinical trial that glass hybrids show similar performance to composites in non-carious cervical lesions.

Mit dem Minamata-Übereinkommen von 2013 haben sich die Staaten der EU dazu verpflichtet, quecksilberhaltige Industrieprodukte wie Dentalamalgam bis zum Jahr 2030 vollständig oder weitgehend aus dem Ver- und Ensorgungskreislauf zu nehmen.1 Im Jahr 2020 kam die EU in einem Gutachten zu dem Schluss, dass auch für Dentalamalgam nicht nur der geplante weitgehende, sondern sogar ein vollständiger Ausstieg möglich sei. Dentalamalgam ist demnach ein Material der Vergangenheit.
