Of course, this kind of contamination is difficult to avoid, given that the oral cavity is naturally full of factors that inhibit adhesion. A healthy mouth continuously produces saliva, for example, which helps with swallowing and provides protection against dental caries. Saliva, however, is a contaminant that can affect restoration adhesion. In addition, as the level of contamination increases, the bond strength tends to decrease.
To help solve this problem, certain cleaning agents have been introduced to the market. These gels are applied to the bonding surface after the intra-oral try-in phase and are designed to clean this surface by removing any contaminants. The goal, ultimately, is to restore the bond strength and create a durable, long-lasting solution when placing indirect restorations.
Though these cleaners have clear advantages for the restorative dentist, they can also come with disadvantages.
A number of the dental cleaners available on the market can only be used extra-orally owing to their high level of alkalinity. Conversely, other products have a high level of acidity, which allows them to be used intra-orally yet may lead to the over-etching of dentine. It is clear that a new cleaner is needed.
There needs to be a cleaner with a wide range of indications, one that can be used intra-orally as well as extra-orally. A cleaner that does not lead to demineralisation and that reduces contamination to a level far lower than has been reached before.
Kuraray Noritake Dental is proud to announce the KATANA Cleaner, the company’s latest solution for optimal adhesive results. This non-abrasive cleaner uses MDP-based salt, making it suitable for cleaning the bonding surfaces of prosthetic restorations after intra-oral try-in. The KATANA Cleaner is also suitable for cleaning contaminated prepared cavities, root canals and tooth/implant abutments intra-orally.
With the KATANA Cleaner, you can now give your patients the bond strength that they deserve.
The KATANA Cleaner will be available from January 2020. Ask your regional Kuraray Noritake Dental customer representative for further information.
