Clinical
Atraumatic extraction of maxillary second premolar

November 29, 2019

A 76-year-old female patient visited our clinic owing to pain in the left maxilla. She had a fistula in the buccal gingiva between tooth #25 and position #24. There were implants in positions #24 and 23. Tooth #25 already had a crown. The tooth had been affected by secondary caries earlier and had been repaired. A periapical radiograph showed an active inflammatory process in progress from the endodontically treated tooth that greatly worsened the prognosis and could have adversely affected the implants. The prognosis was therefore considered poor and we decided to extract the tooth.

The tooth had been prosthetically restored and presented severe caries without early apical destruction or alteration. The patient had previously had a gold crown on the tooth.

Full-mouth restoration with immediate loading in the upper jaw

October 11, 2019

Rehabilitating both jaws of a patient with a poor oral situation is already a challenge in itself. But we wanted to go even further by trying immediate loading using Straumann BLX implants, which are excellent for this kind of work because of their macro-geometry.

The same-day solution with final materials produces excellent implant crowns in a chairside environment.

Torsional resistance of two nickel-titanium rotary instruments: A comparative study

August 19, 2019

This study explores how heat treatment less significantly influences (increasing or decreasing) torsional resistance when compared to the high increase in flexibility and fatigue resistance reported in many published articles. Moreover, torsional fracture occurs extremely rapidly when an instrument’s tip becomes blocked.
