Study supports use of preventative antibiotic use in high-risk patients

SHEFFIELD, UK: Currently, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend that dentists should generally not use antibiotic prophylaxis against infective endocarditis (IE) for patients undergoing invasive dental treatment. A new study of the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines on this topic, however, has found that high-risk patients may benefit from continuing to receive this preventative therapy before treatment.

Report shines a light on mouth cancer in the UK

LONDON, UK: A report released by the Oral Health Foundation has highlighted, among other things, that more than 8,300 people in the UK are diagnosed with mouth cancer each year. The report, launched as part of November’s Mouth Cancer Action Month initiative, found that this figure has increased by 49 per cent over the past decade and 135 per cent over the last 20 years.

New adhesive prevents dental caries around orthodontic brackets
