Study highlights how artificial intelligence can be used for detection of caries

To help rectify this, researchers from Charité—Universitätsmedizin Berlin have recently published the results of a randomised controlled trial they conducted. These results demonstrate that AI can increase the diagnostic accuracy of dentists.

King’s launches student society for sustainable dentistry

Prof. Dirk Ziebolz, head doctor at University of Leipzig Medical Center in Germany, says that dental professionals in the EU are in a position to inform their patients about THR, but are currently lacking knowledge on the subject. When it comes to regulatory support, health authorities in the US are pushing ahead with the cautious adoption of THR products, but those in the EU have been accused of showing a failure of innovation and courage by omitting them from policy-making.

Occupational risk of dentists in Norway examined in new study

OSLO, Norway: The widespread availability of vaccines in developed nations has significantly changed the risk of dentists contracting SARS-CoV-2 in a workplace setting. Prior to this, however, dentists and other workers in other occupations that typically involve close contact were widely believed to be at a relatively high risk of developing COVID-19. A new study out of Norway has sought to examine this idea further by comparing how this risk differed across occupations between the country’s two COVID-19 waves in 2020.

Third EAS congress: It finally happened!

ST JULIAN’S, Malta: The third European Aligner Society (EAS) congress was postponed three times owing to coronavirus restrictions, but finally the EAS organisers were able to welcome the congress lecturers and delegates to Hilton Malta in St Julian’s. The event was held on 7–9 October and attracted 221 attendees from 27 countries. Six hundred people had originally registered for the congress, but many cancelled as late as a week before the congress started because of the many restrictions still in place.

Dr Dominik Nischwitz is a dentist and naturopath, a world specialist in biological dentistry and ceramic implants, and the vice-president of the International Society of Metal Free Implantology. With his father, Dr Nischwitz cofounded DNA Health and Aesthetics Center for Biological Dentistry in Tubingen in Germany in 2015. Dr Nischwitz has exclusively used ceramic implants since 2013, placing more than 4,000 to date. A pioneer in the field of holistic dentistry, Dr Nischwitz regularly gives lectures around the world and has recently published his first book, It’s All in Your MOUTH (2020, Chelsea Green Publishing). He trains traditional dentists in biological dentistry and believes that all health starts in the mouth.
