KIRIKKALE, Turkey: It is known that some microorganisms can penetrate dentinal tubules and sometimes even survive effective irrigation solutions. At this stage, using a penetrable root canal sealer is critically important for entombing microorganisms inside tubules to achieve antimicrobial activity. A research team at Kirikkale University has investigated the penetration depth of four sealers using different obturation methods to determine which is the most effective.

According to Prof. Denis Bourgeois, dental professionals should instruct patients from a young age to make interdental brushes an integral part of their daily brushing routine. This is important in order to avoid future periodontal and systemic disease. Recently, he was part of a team of researchers who evaluated the efficacy of calibrated interdental brushing for the prevention of periodontal pathogen infection in young adults. The results of the study showed that participants were able to decrease interdental inflammation and re-establish symbiotic microbiota.

ANTWERP, Belgium: An industry-affiliated study has found that two cannabinoid-infused mouthwash products containing cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG), respectively, are as effective as 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwash and more effective than two over-the-counter mouthwash products in inhibiting total culturable bacterial content in dental plaque samples. According to the authors, the cannabinoid-infused products are a safer, natural alternative to alcohol- and/or fluoride-containing mouthwash products.

Several pleas to ministers for financial support for private and mixed dental practices have gone unanswered, and BDA Northern Ireland is now calling on dentists to share their personal stories of hardship with the government. Dentists in Scotland are also struggling with increased costs, decreased revenue and patient back-logs, and the BDA has called for better communication from ministers to address patient expectations.
