COLOGNE, Germany: There will be many firsts this year for IDS, as the event takes place under extraordinary circumstances. After ongoing adaptations of the show to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisers are confident that their current concept will facilitate a safe and productive environment for exhibitors and dental professionals and that IDS will live up to its legacy of being the leading dental industry event.

For the first time in its long history, IDS will take place in autumn. In December 2020, the increasing number of SARS-CoV-2 infections and related deaths, as well as the related containment decisions by government, forced the organisers to postpone IDS to September. At that time, about 30,000 new infections and 600 associated deaths were recorded daily in Germany by the Robert Koch Institute.

Just in time for the start of IDS, the new Coronavirus Protection Ordinance of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia came into effect on 15 September, bringing about significant relaxation of regulations and rendering participation in the trade fair simpler than expected.

For the first time, IDS will not surpass the number of exhibitors and attendees from the previous year. However, for the first time too, it will be held as a hybrid event, and the IDSconnect online platform will allow virtually every member of the global dental community to join the show. For those who will be participating in and visiting the trade fair, IDS will be one of the first opportunities to eventually meet industry representatives and peers from home and abroad in person again. On-site participants will have to pre-register for the show, as IDS will provide digital-only tickets for the first time and on-site ticket purchases will not be possible.

Online tickets can be purchased via the IDS ticket shop. Participants will also be asked to provide recognised digital proof of vaccination, COVID-19 recovery or a SARS-CoV-2-negative test result upon entering the trade fair premises.
